KUVA ROASTING PROCESS
Kuva Coffee Company's specialty grade Arabica beans are hand-roasted, upon order, to perfection in small batches by highly skilled Roastmasters to ensure that our customers receive the freshest coffees possible.
It takes years of experience to master the art of roasting and blending premium coffees. Kuva Coffee is roasted to one of three different degrees of temperature depending on the particular blend or country of origin.
Light Roast - This roast imparts the most aromatic, least bitter and most lively characteristics to the bean and highlights coffees natural flavors.
Medium Roast - Considered by many to be the most well-balanced level, this roast results in coffees with deep flavor, robust body and mild acidity.
Dark Roast - This roast develops beans to their fullest body without compromising natural flavors. Expect lower acidity, smokey and smooth characteristics in our dark roasted coffees.
SWISS WATER ® DECAFFEINATED COFFEE
The 100% chemical free SWISS WATER ® decaffeinating process begins by soaking high quality green coffee beans in pure clean water. This step occurs only once, and these original beans are then discarded. The flavor charged water is then run through a carbon filter, which traps only the caffeine molecules in the carbon's pores.
Next the flavor charged water, now decaffeinated, is circulated over the green coffee beans and the caffeine, not the flavor, naturally flows out of the beans. Because the water is already saturated with flavor components, any possible flavor crossover or removal that might occur is held to an absolute minimum. This is why the SWISS WATER ® Process maintains coffee flavor and complexity so accurately, without adding foreign process flavors to the coffees.
The flavor charged water is again run through carbon filters to remove the caffeine. This process is continued until 97% of the caffeine has been removed. The coffee is then dried and returned to its original bags.
SMITHSONIAN CERTIFIED BIRD FRIENDLY ®
Bird Friendly ® coffee is coffee that comes from farms in Latin America that provide good, forest-like habitat for birds. Rather than being grown on land that has been cleared of all other vegetation, Bird Friendly ® coffees are planted under a canopy of trees. Because of the shaded, forest-like setting created by these canopy trees, coffee produced this way is called shade grown.
Not only are Bird Friendly ® coffees shade grown, they are also organic, meaning they are grown without the use of pesticides, which poisons the environment. Bird Friendly ® coffees are the only coffees on the market that are certified as shade grown and organic by an independent third party inspector using criteria established by the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center of the National Zoo. These criteria are based on years of scientific research.
Kuva Coffee Company contributes 25 cents per pound to support Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center research and conservation programs.
